A free plant-based nutrition program is starting

2021-12-02

The vegan month of January ("Veganuary"), which is sweeping the world, does not miss Lithuania either - a newly started project NORI GALI invites you to register for 22 days of herbal discoveries. The interactive program will allow participants not only to try the most delicious plant-based recipes, but also invite them to join the community of participants. The program was created by the non-governmental organization "Gyvi gali" and does not cost participants anything.

Each participant contributes to meaningful change

According to the calculations of the ProVeg International organization, 22 days of plant-based nutrition can save the lives of 2 animals, save about 44 kg of CO2 gas, 27 thousand liters of water and save about 56 square meters of land. Dietary changes can significantly contribute to reducing climate change and preserving resources, because animal husbandry is one of the most polluting industries, and raising animals requires not only a large amount of water, but also the area of land where food is grown for animals.

"People choose to reduce or eliminate animal products for a variety of reasons. Whatever the reasons, they are making a significant difference not only to their own health, but also to the welfare of animals and the planet. It is not necessary to give up everything at once, we can start with small steps and try to include more and more plant products in our menu", says project manager Meda Šermukšnė.

The program encourages discovery, not abandonment

The project manager says that the project encourages you to expand the range of products you consume and discover a variety of new tastes: "Don't be afraid to think about what you will have to give up. We will help you discover so much that you will never feel the lack of your favorite products."

According to the project organizers, participants in the program receive not only a daily package of selected recipes, but also valuable advice and the opportunity to join the community of participants, where you can travel along the path of learning about plant-based nutrition together with like-minded people.

Plant-based food is gaining popularity

In the last few years, the world has seen a strong growth in the demand for plant products, especially during the pandemic. Food market research specialists Innova Market Insights named sustainable and plant-based products as the most popular trends in 2022. Shelves in Lithuanian stores are also abundantly filled with plant-based products: barbecues, milk alternatives, spreads, soups and other products.

The organizers of the NORI GALI project plan to receive at least 2,000 participants in January. It is expected that in the course of the year the number of people interested in this program will increase to 8,000 thousand.
